DEBUTANTE

Debutante balls are a tradition in certain societies in America where girls who have reached an age of maturity are introduced to society at a formal presentation. The balls historically functioned to signal that a girl was ready to be married and introduce her to eligible bachelors of the same social class and circle. Now most debutantes are now headed off to college instead of marriage. As the position of women in society has changed, debutante balls are trying to find their place in the modern world while still preserving their traditions. Many modern debutante balls are now fundraisers for charity and focus on teaching the girls proper etiquette, confidence and social skills that they will need to function as adults while helping them to form bonds with other girls their age and their families.
